Shares of Hercules Offshore (HERO Quote) advanced after the well driller beat Wall Street's fourth-quarter earnings estimates. The company posted a loss of $2.2 million, or 8 cents a share, on revenue of $48 million, compared with net income of $5.9 million, or 40 cents a share, on revenue of $23.3 million a year ago.

Excluding certain charges, Hercules earned $9.9 million, or 34 cents a share. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were looking for a profit of 24 cents a share on that basis. Hercules gained 72 cents, or 2.1%, to $35.52 in recent trading.

RAE Systems (RAE Quote) rose after the company, which makes chemical- and radiation-detection monitors, said more than 40 of its AreaRAE systems were used at Ford Field and at key locations in and around Detroit to check for possible threats during the Super Bowl. Shares of RAE Systems tacked on 11 cents, or 3.1%, to $3.71.

Harmonic(HLIT Quote) was rising after the seller of digital-video and fiber-optic systems said satellite television company DirecTV (DTV Quote) selected the company's DiviCom MV 100 standard definition encoder for new MPEG-4 AVC-based video services. Harmonic gained 18 cents, or 3.1%, to $6.03 in recent trading.

Builders FirstSource(BLDR Quote) advanced after the building-products supplier said Warburg Pincus, a private equity company, agreed to acquire a 26.2% ownership interest in the company from JLL Partners.

Also, a new JLL fund, JLL Partners Fund V, will acquire the remaining 26.2% beneficial ownership interest in Builders FirstSource currently held by other funds controlled by JLL. Shares of Builders FirstSource recently gained 64 cents, or 2.5%, to $25.93.

Shares of American Dental Partners (ADPI Quote) fell after the provider of business services to dental practices said its Minnesota unit was sued by client PDG. American Dental said it reviewed the complaint and believes the allegations are baseless and without merit. American Dental dropped $2.13, or 13%, to $14.28.
