Shares of NIC (EGOV Quote) rose after the Olathe, Kan., company reported fourth-quarter earnings of $2.4 million, or 4 cents a share. NIC, which manages government Web sites, posted revenue of $16.4 million. Operating income was $3.9 million, compared with $2.7 million a year ago. NIC rose 22 cents, or 3.7%, to $6.10 in recent trading.

Rock-Tenn (RKT Quote) fell after the Norcross, Ga., packaging-goods maker posted a loss of $9 million, or 25 cents a share, for the first quarter, compared with a profit of $500,000, or 1 cent a share, a year ago. Net sales reached $490.4 million, up 27.1%. Shares of Rock-Tenn dropped $1.64, or 10.9%, to $13.40.

USA Truck (USAK Quote) sank after the Van Buren, Ark., freight mover missed analysts' quarterly earnings expectations by 3 cents. The company had a profit of 37 cents a share in the fourth quarter, but analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected earnings of 40 cents a share.

The company reported record quarterly base revenue of $97.1 million, up 14% from a year ago. Net income increased 40.4% to $4.3 million. Shares of USA Truck were down $4.61, or 15.2%, to $25.68 in recent trading.

Shares of Kulicke & Soffa Industries (KLIC Quote) were climbing after the Willow Grove, Pa., chip-equipment maker posted first-quarter revenue of $228.1 million, compared with $116.3 million a year ago.

Earnings rose to 38 cents a share, while Kulicke lost 14 cents a share a year ago. The company also said it had signed agreements to sell its wafer-test assets and its package-test assets. Kulicke's shares advanced $1.22, or 12.2%, to $11.21.

Deluxe (DLX Quote) fell after the Minnesota-based check printer posted fourth-quarter net income of $39 million, or 76 cents a share, compared with a profit of $47 million and earnings of 92 cents a share. Revenue fell 9% to $432 million.

Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were expecting the company to earn 84 cents a share. Shares of Deluxe lost 55 cents, or 1.9%, to $28.06 in recent trading.
