Today's Small-Cap Winners and Losers

Shares of Kelly Services (KELYA Quote) rose after the Troy, Mich., staffing company posted fourth-quarter earnings of $13.3 million, or 37 cents a share, up from $8 million, or 22 cents a share, a year earlier.

Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were looking for earnings of 32 cents a share. Revenue grew 2.1% to $1.38 billion. Kelly Services rose 27 cents, or 1%, to $26.68.

Foundation Coal Holdings(FCL Quote) fell after the Linthicum Heights, Md., company said two holders distributed 8.3 million of its shares to their respective partners. The company won't receive any proceeds from the distribution or any resales of the stock. Foundation Coal slipped $2.17, or 4.7%, to $44.07.

Align Technology(ALGN Quote) rose after the Santa Clara, Calif., company, which makes the Invisalign wireless tooth straightening product, beat analysts' fourth-quarter expectations.

The company posted earnings of $528,000, or 1 cent a share, down from $1.1 million, or 2 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected the company to lose 3 cents a share. Revenue for the quarter rose 17% to $51.2 million. Align Technology advanced 52 cents, or 6.9%, to $8.05.

Shares of SI International (SINT Quote) were higher on news the Reston, Va., information technology company was awarded a contract to provide human resources support services to the welcome center at the National Security Agency.

The contract is valued at $6.9 million over five years if all options are exercised. SI International gained 32 cents, or 1.1%, to $28.82.
