Jon Anda Leaves Morgan Stanley

A top executive at Morgan Stanley(MWD) is leaving to join up with a new investment-banking firm being formed by former Morgan Stanley banker Joseph Perella.

Jon Anda's departure from Morgan Stanley was confirmed by Perella in a press release issued late Wednesday. Perella made the announcement after a story appeared on the online edition of The Wall Street Journal.

Anda had been co-head of global capital markets at Morgan Stanley. He is the first high-level defection since Morgan Stanley Chairman and CEO John Mack returned this summer to take the helm of the Wall Street firm.

Perella left Morgan Stanley last April during the internal leadership battle that ended with the resignation of former CEO Philip Purcell. Perella left even though Purcell had named him vice chairman in an attempt to keep him aboard.

Perella joined Morgan Stanley in 1993, after leaving Wasserstein Perella, the investment bank he formed with Lazard(LAZ) Chairman and CEO Bruce Wasserstein

In an unrelated development, Morgan Stanley announced it is changing its stock ticker to "MS,'' as of Jan. 17.
