JBL: Eat 'Em Up

As one of the performers for the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), I travel overseas to perform eight to 10 times a year. The U.K., Italy, Japan, South Africa and Australia are some of our very best markets. Portraying a bad guy, I have been booed on five different continents.

Traveling globally makes you realize how small the world actually is becoming, although I got to celebrate Thanksgiving in Europe again this year and it's admittedly strange to watch my Cowboys play with Sky TV announcers commenting on the game. It is like listening to John Madden do color commentary on soccer.

Maybe globalization isn't perfect, but I have two companies that have managed to turn the globe into their marketplace. The best part is we can make money off of their successes.

At almost 300 pounds, I know food and have always thought that fried chicken and pizza were the perfect foods. Now the world is starting to agree with me.

When taking a food chain international, it is sometimes crucial to educate the local people to a new taste. Sometimes it doesn't work, such as Dunkin Donuts in the U.K. Yum Brands (YUM), on the other hand, has found a way to make it work.

Yum Brands is the worldwide leader in multibranding. Yum's brands of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Long John Silver's are the worldwide leaders in chicken, pizza, Mexican-style food and quick-service seafood restaurants, respectively.

Mainland China is the No. 1 market for new company-restaurant development worldwide. In 1987, Yum's KFC brand became the first fast-food restaurant in China, and in 2002, KFC opened the first ever drive through. Pizza Hut was the first restaurant chain to introduce pizza, in 1990.

In 2004, Yum Brands China reported more than $200 million in revenue, a 20% year-over-year increase. In 2005, Yum Brands China began reporting separately due to the size and importance of the Chinese brand. There are now more than 2,000 system restaurants in China.
