Holidays Are Huge for XM, Sirius Satellite

Analysts say Sirius has a slight edge over XM this time around, with the introduction of its S50 MP3 player-satellite radio combination. XM has delayed the unveiling of its iPod-like combo device until early next year.

And the biggest draw for Sirius in December will be Howard Stern, as fans sign on in anticipation of the shock jock's debut at the beginning of the year.

Hoefer & Arnett analyst Horace says the buzz around Stern will help push satellite radio a little further toward the mass-market audience industry observers have long been predicting.

"They have been promoting in markets where Stern's not been available, and that will generate a lot more awareness," says Horace.
