Enzo Biochem Names Lead Director

Enzo Biochem (ENZ Quote) named Melvin F. Lazar to the new position of independent lead director.

Lazar has been a member of the Farmingdale, N.Y., biotech's board since Aug. 1, 2002. He serves on the audit committee and the compensation committee and is the chairman of its nominating/governance committee.

"The creation of the role of lead independent director is an important step to further enhance our board independence and corporate governance," said Chairman and CEO Elazar Rabbani. "We are fortunate to be able to call on the talent and experience of Melvin Lazar in this newly created role."

The lead independent director will coordinate the activities of the independent directors, serve as a liaison between the chairman, senior management and Enzo's independent directors, and preside at the executive sessions of Enzo's independent directors. Five of eight Enzo directors are classified as independent.

On Friday, Enzo slipped 23 cents to $13.60.
