Google: $400 or Bust

This column was originally published on RealMoney on Oct. 31 at 8:08 a.m. EDT. It's being republished as a bonus for TheStreet.com readers.

Something off-topic today, but still important to think about.

I recently ran into a situation where I wanted to do something nice for my daughter's college and was immediately countered by a few outsiders who opined how hard it would be to get accomplished.

They cited chapter and verse on how my "vision" would not be nearly as easy to do as I had assumed.

I hate that attitude -- an attitude we all encounter too often in our lives.

It's the attitude of "dream killers" and it's voiced by folks who can't wait to find all of the reasons something can't work, instead of all the reasons it can.

Sure, they sound pragmatic, but all they do is suck the life out of those around them, bringing everyone down to their own miserable state.

My advice?

Avoid these people.

No one ever accomplished anything worthwhile by starting with the premise that it can't succeed.

End of sermon!
