H&R Block(HRB Quote) said it earned $616.5 million, or $3.66 a share, for the fourth quarter ended April 30, compared with $576.8 million, or $3.24 a share, a year ago. Revenue for the quarter was $2.36 billion. Analysts expected a profit of $3.52 a share on revenue of $2.34 billion, according to Thomson First Call. For fiscal 2006, the company said it expects to earn $4.25 to $4.65 a share. The company also announced its board approved a 2-for-1 stock and raised its post-split dividend to 12.5 cents from 11 cents. The stock added 6% to $53.70 Thursday morning.

Tessera Technologies(TSRA Quote) raised earnings guidance for the second quarter and full year as a result of larger-than-expected payments for past production. For the second quarter, it now expects revenue of $21.3 million to $21.7 million, up from its previous range of $16.5 million to $17 million. For 2005, the company expects revenue of $92 million to $94 million, compared with its original forecast of $89 million to $91 million. The stock was up 84 cents, or 2.63%, to $32.80.

Regal Entertainment Group(RGC Quote) agreed to settle Justice Department claims filed under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Regal will incur capital costs of approximately $15 million over the next five years to improve its theaters in accordance with the settlement. The stock was unchanged at $19.05.

Power Integrations(POWI Quote) said the International Trade Commission will begin an investigation into whether System General Corp. is infringing its patents involving pulse-width modulation integrated circuits and the products that incorporate them. The stock was up a penny, or 0.04%, to $24.07 in after-hours trading.

Xilinx(XLNX Quote) reaffirmed its financial guidance for the first quarter. The company expects revenue to be flat to up 4% from the previous quarter. The company also left gross margins unchanged at 61%. Analysts expected earnings of 21 cents a share on revenue of $401.4 million, according to Thomson First Call. The stock was down 88 cents, or 3.13%, to $27.20 in after-hours trading.
