Shares of Jabil Circuit(JBL) were among technology's winners Friday, rising 6% after the company posted in-line second-quarter earnings and forecast third-quarter earnings and sales above expectations. Excluding items, the electronics components maker earned $54.9 million, or 27 cents a share, on sales of $1.72 billion. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call were expecting earnings of 27 cents a share on sales of $1.7 billion. A year ago, the company earned $49.7 million, or 24 cents a share, on sales of $1.49 billion. Looking ahead, Jabil forecast third-quarter earnings of 32 cents to 34 cents a share on sales of $1.9 billion to $1.95 billion. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 31 cents a share on sales of $1.83 billion. Shares traded up $1.56 to $27.58. Shares of Tektronix(TEK) fell 7% after the company posted weak third-quarter sales and warned that fourth-quarter earnings and sales would fall below expectations. Excluding items, the testing and measuring equipment company earned $28.1 million, or 31 cents a share, on sales of $256.3 million. Analysts expected earnings of 31 cents a share on sales of $261.1 million. A year ago, the company earned $29.1 million, or 33 cents a share, on sales of $243.5 million. Looking ahead, Tektronix forecast fourth-quarter earnings of 33 cents to 35 cents a share on sales of $265 million to $270 million. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 38 cents a share on sales of $280.9 million. Shares traded down $1.93 to $25.52. Shares of Lawson Software(LWSN) ended the day unchanged after the company posted mixed third-quarter results. Excluding items, the company earned 5 cents a share on sales of $82.7 million. Analysts expected pro forma earnings of 4 cents a share on sales of $87.3 million. A year ago the company earned $2.6 million, or 2 cents a share, on sales of $91.6 million. Shares ended the Friday session at $5.86. Shares of palmOne(PLMO) fell 7.9% after the company posted in-line third-quarter earnings but warned that fourth-quarter earnings and sales would fall well below expectations. Excluding items, the company earned $10.6 million, or 21 cents a share, on sales of $285.3 million. Analysts expected earnings of 21 cents a share on sales of $281.7 million. Looking ahead, palmOne forecast fourth-quarter earnings of 25 cents to 32 cents a share on sales of $320 million to $330 million. Analysts had been expecting earnings of 52 cents a share on sales of $353.7 million. The company said its guidance assumes that certain products originally slated to ship early in the fourth quarter will now ship late in the fourth quarter or move into the first quarter of fiscal 2006.
