American Eagle Outfitters(AEOS Quote) earned $43.9 million, or 60 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, exceeding analysts' expectations by 2 cents.
The clothing retailer earned $49.1 million, or 68 cents a share, in the year-ago period. American Eagle had already disclosed that sales in the quarter were $464.3 million, compared with $423.7 million. The company's shares were down 1.8% to $23.90 on Instinet.
