May Department Stores Jan. Same-Store Sales Rose 3.4%

May Department Stores (MAY Quote) reported a same-store sales increase of 3.4% in the month of January compared with the year-ago period.

Total sales were $746.6 million for the St. Louis-based department store chain, up 10% from $678.5 million in January of last year.

In afternoon trading, May lost 15 cents, or 0.4%, to $38.80 on the New York Stock Exchange.
