BRUSLY, La. (AP) — Trinity Marine Products, a barge maker in Brusly, says 190 employees they'll be cut in mid-July. Blaming a downturn in orders for its barges, employees were told Tuesday that the cuts take effect July 17 and will hit both hourly and administrative employees. The Brusly plant will remain open.
Nancy Farrar, whose Dallas public relations firm represents Trinity's parent company, Trinity Industries Inc., said no additional comments would be made.
Riley Berthelot, the West Baton Rouge Parish president, said Wednesday Trinity has a staff of 200-300 workers.
Trinity Industries, which owns the Brusly plant and a similar one in Madisonville, is one of the country's largest inland barge manufacturers.
