LOS ANGELES --
There are a number of netbooks on the market, but I wanted to get my hands on one
loaded with the Linux operating system, Ubuntu. With a number of cell phone companies
switching to Linux, I think it's only a matter of time before more and more laptops, see the light. System 76 is a company that is dedicated to the Linux operating system. This is the kind of machine that businesses should send out to their mobile executives. The stable operating system and the price can't be beat.
Later, Gadget Grrl says TSA lines are no fun, so a laptop case that will help you cut down on the amount of time you spend in those lines is a real find.
Caselogic makes a case for just about anything, iPods, cameras, backpacks, even car trunk organizers. Their 16" Security Friendly Laptop Case, is designed so that your laptop meets the TSA guidelines and does not have to be removed from the case.
Now, more about the laptop with Linux.
System 76 is a company that is dedicated to the Linux operating system, because of the stability, security and adaptability of the software.
System 76 has a nice selection of laptops to choose from loaded with Linux.
The Darter Ultra is its entry-level laptop and here are a few of the features:
Display: 12.1" WXGA Glossy LCD (1280 x 800)
Graphics: Intel X4500HD
Networking: Gigabit LAN (10/100/1000), WiFi
Wireless: 802.11 agn
Expansion: Express Card 34/54 slot
Ports: VGA, 3 x USB 2.0, Headphone Jack, Microphone Jack, S/PDIF Output Jack, SD Reader
Camera: Built-In 2.0 MP Webcam
Dimensions: 11.8" x 8.7" x 1~1.4" (WxDxH)
Weight: 4.1 lbs.
For a little more, you can upgrade to include things like Bluetooth, or move from 2GB of ram to 4GB.
I liked this laptop for a number of reasons. First, the operating system is actually fun, booted up right away, and knowing that it's not going to be inundated with spyware every time I search for anything is a plus. I liked the headphone and microphone jack plugs in the front and center of the laptop, instead of on the side. Cords are always getting yanked, especially on planes.
The weight on this laptop does not feel heavy and the screen display is crisp, sharp and exactly what you'd want to view anything from spreadsheets to Adam Sandler's latest movie.
This is the kind of machine that businesses should send out to their mobile executives. The stable operating system and the price can't be beat.
Caselogic makes a case for just about anything, iPods, cameras, backpacks, even car trunk organizers. Their 16" Security Friendly Laptop Case, is designed so that your laptop meets the TSA guidelines and does not have to be removed from the case. That is because it is housed in a separate compartment. When you go through security, the bag
unzips along the circumference and then splits in half (sort of like a filet o' fish) so that it will lay flat on the security belt for inspection.
There are also plenty of pockets inside for organizing all of your other gadgets. Its mesh pocket lets you store things you need to see
at a glance.

If you have even a remote interest in food, then you'll like this site. It's sort of a foodie's wikipedia. Go here to get a recipe, or give one. For real gourmets, you can even edit or tweak recipes that are on the site. This gives a whole new meaning to "too many cooks in the kitchen."
