Darter Ultra: Linux on a Laptop

LOS ANGELES -- There are a number of netbooks on the market, but I wanted to get my hands on one loaded with the Linux operating system, Ubuntu. With a number of cell phone companies switching to Linux, I think it's only a matter of time before more and more laptops, see the light. I liked this laptop for a number of reasons. First, the operating system is actually fun, booted up right away, and knowing that it's not going to be inundated with spyware every time I search for anything is a plus. I liked the headphone and microphone jack plugs in the front and center of the laptop, instead of on the side. Cords are always getting yanked, especially on planes.

The weight on this laptop does not feel heavy and the screen display is crisp, sharp and exactly what you'd want to view anything from spreadsheets to Adam Sandler's latest movie.

This is the kind of machine that businesses should send out to their mobile executives. The stable operating system and the price can't be beat.

When you go through security, the bag unzips along the circumference and then splits in half (sort of like a filet o' fish) so that it will lay flat on the security belt for inspection.
