I believe I just might have found the answer to my mobile needs in the 3K RazorBook Mini Notebook PC.
With all the hassles of Vista, I wasn't anxious to pick up one of the new sub-notebooks loaded with it, so a PC with the Linux operating system that will also open Word and Excel docs sounded good.
For starters the size on this one is 8.25 inches in length by 5.5 inches in width by 1.25 inches in depth; and it weighs in at under two pounds. Battery life is about three hours, with continued use, which is long enough to work or watch a movie.
The specs on this include built-in WiFi 802.11 b/g that automatically detects and connects to the Internet at any hotspot, open source Office Suite includes AbiWord/Opens Microsoft® Word Files, GNUMeric/Opens Microsoft® Excel Files, an Email Client, a PDF Reader, three USB connection ports and one Ethernet 10/100 LAN port, 512MB DDR2 Mem and a rapid start-up time of 15 seconds to boot up.
Don't let Linux scare you. There are lots of companies making the switch. You'll see more and more devices in the near future hopping onto the open yet stable, Linux operating system.
