Autodesk Lifts Guidance

SAN FRANCISCO -- Autodesk(ADSK Quote) squeaked past analysts' earnings expectations Thursday and raised guidance for the coming quarter.

The San Rafael, Calif., maker of engineering software reported a top line of $525.9 million, up 17% over the same quarter last year, when revenue was $449.6 million. That beat Thomson Financial analysts' forecast of $525 million.

Earnings per share was 38 cents on net income of $91.6 million, vs. $86.8 million in the year-ago period.

Excluding items, the company earned 44 cents a share, a penny ahead of analysts' expectations, on net income of $108.4 million. A year ago, income was $95.7 million.

In after-hours trading, the stock was up $1.69, or 4%, to $44.30.

The company raised third-quarter EPS expectations by 4 cents, to a range of 47 cents to 49 cents. Autodesk raised both ends of the revenue range by $10 million, to project $530 million to $540 million in the current quarter. Analysts were expecting EPS of 45 cents on a top line of $528.2 million.

The company also lifted full-year EPS, less items, to a range of $1.87 to $1.91, on revenue of $2.14 billion to $2.16 billion. Analysts were expecting EPS of $1.87 on revenue of slightly under $2.14 billion.
