Wal-Mart WMT said last week's death of Helen Walton, wife of company founder Sam Walton, "will not require sales of a substantial number of Wal-Mart shares for the next several years."
The Bentonville, Ark., retailer said a significant portion of her Wal-Mart interest will pass over time to charity. The company said it "is expected that Wal-Mart shares will be disposed of over time to fund charitable programs."
Helen Walton, who died April 19 in Bentonville, inherited a stake in Wal-Mart from her husband when he died in 1992. She was listed by
Forbes last year as having a fortune north of $15 billion.
