China Stocks Climb

Stocks in Asia were mixed Monday, sinking in Japan but getting a big lift in mainland China.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 slid 1.5% to 17,028, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng edged ahead by 0.04% to 19,810. China's CSI 300 was up 2.5% at 2850. Taiwan's Taiex was little changed at 7885.

Elsewhere, South Korea's Kospi and Singapore's Straits Times Index each gained 0.5%, but the Sensex 30 in India slumped 4.7%. Australia's All Ordinaries dropped 1.2% to 5908.

Markets in Europe were mostly stronger. London's FTSE 100 was up 0.1% to 6316, and Frankfurt's Xetra DAX rose 0.3% to 6937.

The Cac 40 in Paris tacked on 0.2% to 5646, Milan's MIB 30 gained 0.5% to 41,894, and the Swiss Market Index shed 0.2% to 8956.

As for the Americas, Mexico's Bolsa was better by 1.5% at 29,173, and Brazil's Bovespa fell 1.1% to 45,288. Canada's S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.6% to 13,249.
