Gemstar-TV Guide Has New CEO

Gemstar-TV Guide(GMST Quote) named its third CEO in three years, Fox Entertainment(FOX Quote) executive Rich Battista.

Battista succeeds Jeff Shell, who reportedly will take a programming position with Comcast(CMCSA Quote). Gemstar's stock is up more than 40% since Shell was named CEO in November 2002, closing Thursday at $5.40.

Gemstar also named News Corp.(NWS Quote) Executive Vice President Anthea Disney executive chairman, a move that coincided with the resignation of Lachlan Murdoch from its board of directors. News Corp. is Gemstar's controlling shareholder.

Battista, 40 years old, was most recently executive vice president of business development and strategy at Fox Entertainment.
