By trying to sidestep the problems that Lowe's (LOW - commentary - Cramer's Take) had by working on derivatives that made profits -- perhaps related to betting against competitors -- you really messed up. It would have been so much better just to take the beating the way Lowe's and Home Depot (HD - commentary - Cramer's Take) did, rather that try to sidestep the problems."
They also can't even figure out what to do with Lowe's. The company's saying a lot of bearish things but isn't going down because the bearish things were in the stock. Still, I like the idea of being able to manage the consumer and the book of business by acting on it with a derivative. That makes so much sense, it's scary. And, of course, it's scary to all of the analysts. At the time of publication, Cramer was long Sears Holdings.
