A Market of Heavy Hits

My eighth-grade football coach used to call a great tackle an "earhole" -- as in, "Great earhole on that receiver after he made that catch across the middle!" He'd say that while the opposing player was getting up from the big hit and pulling the grass out of his earhole.

Today's theme is earholing.

Amazon (AMZN - commentary - Cramer's Take) earholed the bears last night with its blowout guidance.

Its impressive Internet follow-up to Google (GOOG - commentary - Cramer's Take) will be competing with the fallout from Fred Anderson's earholing of Steve Jobs at Apple (AAPL - commentary - Cramer's Take).

The analyst community is out in full force, defending/rationalizing/wishing that the latest developments in the Apple options-backdating scam is absolutely no big deal. "Why, the SEC all but cleared the company and Jobs yesterday!" they say. I think the SEC looks like a bunch of idiots who just got earholed by the former Apple CFO when he took the facts to the public.

With its tepid guidance, Boeing (BA - commentary - Cramer's Take) earholed the bulls who want to stick with this economic cycle.

Most traders and common folk feel earholed with all this hype over the arbitrary Dow 13,000 target. Maybe we can start hyping every 200 points instead of just every thousand? Come on, the hype is so fun.

Our job is to stay focused, find the next Amazon, and make sure we don't get earholed with sloppy trades.

More in just a bit.

At the time of publication, the firm in which Willard is a partner was net long Google, Apple common and Apple puts, although positions can change at any time and without notice.
