Semi Conscious

One thing nobody can complain about is a lack of action, catalysts or news flow. I mean, just when you thought your brain couldn't process another trading implication from a new piece of data, you get news of this Anderson vs. Jobs celebrity death match. Somebody get on making that video for YouTube, and we'll feature it on this blog.

Texas Instruments' (TXN - commentary - Cramer's Take) big pop dominated the action today, and it keyed the rally from the morning doldrums. The semi indices were up about 3% on the day, too, as the Street extrapolated Texan's strong guidance out to the rest of the sector, rightly or wrongly. Even endlessly trashed and lamented names like Micron Technology (MU - commentary - Cramer's Take) got into the works and popped a bit.

I remain focused on finding great paired trades. I'm still building a few long positions in some semi names that I've been alluding to since I first wrote that I wanted to buy these stocks, and I'm also building some short positions in some semi suppliers, as I've been mentioning lately, too. More on each, including more names, in coming days and weeks.

Aaron and I spent some time parsing which subsectors and names in the semi space are hot and what's not in today's episode of "Cody & Task." Analog like Analog Devices (ADI - commentary - Cramer's Take) is good; communications like Xilinx (XLNX - commentary - Cramer's Take) is bad. And other than that, we've got still got Microsoft (MSFT - commentary - Cramer's Take) coming down the pipe later this week, too. Stay sharp! See you tomorrow.
