Newsletter Provides Guidance, Even for This Bruising Market
By Gary B. Smith
Special to TheStreet.com

10/3/00 12:30 AM ET

Well, really, not much to say. My only question: If you were thinking of moving to trading as a full-time profession a few months ago, are you still thinking the same thing now? Let me know.

On a different note, here's a plug for my friend, James O. Rohrbach. You might remember I mentioned James a few months ago because he publishes one of the few newsletters I take the time to read. James is a "market timer" and issues very straightforward signals as to when to get in and when to get out. His latest signal was a "sell" on Sept. 21, and from that close until midday Monday, the Dow was down 1.7% and Nasdaq was down 4.4%. Not too shabby, James.

For those interested, James can be reached at http://www.investment-models.com/ .

And, with that, a few charts:

Gary B. Smith is a freelance writer who trades for his own account from his Maryland home using technical analysis. At time of publication, he held no positions in any securities mentioned in this column, although holdings can change at any time. Under no circumstances does the information in this column represent a recommendation to buy or sell stocks. Smith writes five technical analysis columns for TheStreet.com each week, including Technician's Take, Charted Territory and TSC Technical Forum. While he cannot provide investment advice or recommendations, he invites you to send your feedback to Gary B. Smith .
