Sift Through the Sandbagging

The tough thing about this market is trying to figure out who is sandbagging you and who isn't. I simply don't believe that all of these companies in the consumer tech space are going to have a dicey time of it this holiday shopping season. When you get the kind of retail environment that I see, you don't want to run from Genesis Micro (GNSS - commentary - Cramer's Take) or AU Optronics (AUO - commentary - Cramer's Take) or Corning (GLW - commentary - Cramer's Take), you want to buy them.

It's hard to know what's what. But I keep thinking about Atheros (ATHR - commentary - Cramer's Take), which reported the best of the semiconductor numbers so far. I keep thinking about how cautious CEO Craig Barratt was in his interview with my CNBC buddy Erin Burnett. He went out of his way to say that this networking technology company with a big retail component could not feel confident going into Christmas.

I think that, too, is sandbagging, setting the bar low so the stock can advance. Take the medicine now for a rally later.

That's why I like these stocks now. The risk is out, the reward is in.

At the time of publication, Cramer was long had no positions in the stock mentioned.
