The Pain of Quarter-End Markup Time

By Jim Cramer
RealMoney.com Columnist

 Market Analysis NEUTRAL
  • It's quarter-end markup time.
  • Winners like Amazon keep winning.
  • This is a tough time in the performance business.

Oh no! We're back in the "winners win" moment again. That's when the only stocks that are working are the ones that keep working, and everything else gets left behind.

Take it from me: This is a gut-wrenching time in the performance business. You are getting the most performance out of the horses that have been so flogged, you'd think they were ready for the glue factory.

There's Amazon (AMZN - commentary - Cramer's Take), still climbing after all these months, breaking $50 despite the endless hand-wringing of overvaluation.

There's Electronic Arts (ERTS - commentary - Cramer's Take), about to go to $100. Ah, if only I had watched what my kids took out from Blockbuster instead of what I had rented, I would have nailed that one big-time.

There's eBay (EBAY - commentary - Cramer's Take) finally breaking out; I mean, does anyone really think it will be contained by its old high?

Or how about Yahoo! (YHOO - commentary - Cramer's Take), headed for a classic bout with its next quarter but not before it takes out its old high?

Or how about LeapFrog (LF - commentary - Cramer's Take) or Take-Two (TTWO - commentary - Cramer's Take)? Talk about bulletproof.

Does anyone think MultiMedia Games (MGAM - commentary - Cramer's Take) will be reined in here? Or International Speedway (ISCA - commentary - Cramer's Take)? Or World Fuel Services (INT - commentary - Cramer's Take)? Or InterActiveCorp (IACI - commentary - Cramer's Take)? You can see that stock pulling into the $40s in about a day or two, can't you? Any unlucky soul short Omnivision (OVTI - commentary - Cramer's Take) out there? You're probably calling it Omnivicious by now.
