RealMoney.com : Action Alert!
Time for the roundup, and I like what I am seeing going in to the new year. My only regret is that I can't sell those losers that I keep trashing (Constellation (CEG:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis), Fluor (FLR:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis), Halliburton (HAL:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis), Merck (MRK:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis), Schlumberger (SLB:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis)) because of my restrictions. (To see my portfolio, click here.) Aetna (AET:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): This stock has been strong of late, and I think it will just get stronger. The turnaround is real and is happening right now. I would be in this ahead of the next quarter. Alcoa (AA:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Disappointing quarter is now in the stock. This company had a lot of leverage to higher electric prices, which now aren't happening. The franchise is a strong franchise, though, and I would be a buyer down here. AmerisourceBergen (ABC:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): It is moving nicely higher, and I think that the quarter is very on track. Whoever was selling this thing is now out of the picture. AOL Time Warner (AOL:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): I keep these last 400 shares because I want to keep an eye on this stock, not because I like it that much. I would be careful with this stock as I think that you don't want to be there. Bank of America (BAC:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): I thought this stock had broken out, but it keeps coming back in and it is starting to drive me crazy. We will have to wait until we see the next quarter, which will be fantastic! Best Buy (BBY:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Keeps on rocking. I think this stock will plow toward $90 in the first quarter. I love it. Caterpillar (CAT:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Strong stock that works higher over time as the quarter is made. ChevronTexaco (CVX:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Quiet stock, will do nothing until the next set of cost reductions is announced. Cisco (CSCO:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis): Took a licking because of Juniper (JNPR:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis) but I continue to think that Cisco is a share-taker, not a share-loser, and that Cisco will have a fine quarter. Citigroup (C:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Sandy Weill spins off some of Travelers to bring out the value. Sandy thinks his stock is too low; that's important and I wish I could buy more. Clorox (CLX:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Quarter's excellent, people are raising estimates and I think it can work to the mid-$40s. Conexant (CNXT:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis): Controversial stock because of a deal where it is merging with Alpha. I think this is a sum-of-the-parts story and the parts are worth $21-$24. Preannounced that the business is stronger than expected this week. Dell (DELL:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis): Company's having an excellent quarter. I believe that Dell took more share this quarter. EMC (EMC:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Sold some this week. Quarter's not done, and I worry that it is not really snapping back as it should. General Dynamics (GD:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): New name, will be a great name over the course of the next year or two as the defense budget goes up huge in the wake of Sept. 11. General Electric (GE:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Great analyst meeting. Company is doing quite well and is not as expensive as it usually is. Guidant (GDT:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Strong stock, still in the sweet spot moving aggressively into coated stents. Recently sold some up here. HCA (HCA:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): I know, I know, nothing doing here. Yet. I am not giving up on it and think it will go higher. IBM (IBM:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): One of the strongest stocks in the Dow. Thought it would go down more without that stimulus package, but it didn't. Biding time for its next big up move.
Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis): Windows XP has a glitch. These things happen, they can be fixed, stock got spanked for a couple of points. That seems like an overreaction to me. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (MWD:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Company reported an excellent quarter earlier this week. I liked it so much I bought more. Nokia (NOK:NYSE ADR - news - commentary - research - analysis): Stock hangs in, quarter was better than expected. I like everything I hear here, including the new models. Oracle (ORCL:Nasdaq - news - commentary - research - analysis): Ellison stuck his neck out and said things are getting better. No reason for him to do that if it weren't the case as there would be ample opportunity for him to hedge. PepsiCo (PEP:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): I was able to buy more before it took off earlier in the week. I think this stock goes to the $50s when it reports. Pfizer (PFE:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Not depressed by Rezulin verdict. These things happen, and I think Pfizer will fight it and juries will not hold Pfizer liable. Philip Morris (MO:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Bought more Friday thinking that this 5% grower is ready to go back to the $50s. Schlumberger (SLB:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): I am now holding this stock out as discontinued as I don't want to own anything involving oil drilling. These drilling budgets are going lower. Target (TGT:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Retail is the big surprise of the late fall/early winter, and Target is one of the biggest beneficiaries. I like this stock here. TRW (TRW:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Stock is too high, and I wish I could sell it. Prospects are just so-so. United Technologies (UTX:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Terrific stock with a terrific outlook, I think it creeps back to the $70s. Universal Health Realty (UHT:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): A real estate investment trust that is too defensive for me, and I would like to sell some. Verizon (VZ:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Sleepy stock with 3% yield, but I think it can go higher once all of the other telcos in the era get wiped out. Viacom (VIA.B:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Doing OK, still part of the advertising recession. No earnings breakout until second quarter. Wells Fargo (WFC:NYSE - news - commentary - research - analysis): Creeping higher and I think it can work its way toward $50. Thought it would be at $45 by now but no such luck. Yet!
