Widespread skepticism continues to envelop the stock market, but the recent move has lifted the major averages substantially off their lows, giving the bull camp some running room. In the coming days, the key element to sustaining the rally will flow from expectations about the second half. Will the much-anticipated second-half rebound take hold? Or will we continue to struggle with both consumer and corporate confidence, keeping the economy down toward zero growth? This week TheStreet.com will examine the second-half scenario more closely, looking at what companies have been saying about the second half during this earnings season. Despite the recent surge in stocks, not to mention the jump in many technology shares, the past several months have been a value chieftain's dream. So it makes sense to turn to the Grand Marshall of value, Warren Buffett. Next weekend, the Bomb from Omaha will be hosting his annual confab for investors. Dairy Queen, baseball and other goodies await, not to mention the chance to extract some pearls of wisdom from the big man. Christopher Edmonds, as has been his tradition, will be taking the opportunity to chat up Warren and grab a moment with Ernie "Let's Play Two" Banks. He'll be reporting on the event this coming weekend, April 28 and 29. You may have noticed one of our newest contributors, Doug Kass. Doug, a long-time trader and writer who has opined in the pages of Barron's and elsewhere, brings a savvy view to the investment climate. In addition, he kicked off his tenure with TheStreet.com by predicting a jump in share prices ahead of the recent gains. On Friday, he turned a little more cautious. I encourage you to read Doug's columns and to pay attention. He seems to have a hot hand right now. For those who haven't noticed, we've added a robust section of corporate earnings news and conference call information. To get a handle on who is reporting, go here.
