It happens to me all the time. If left to my own devices, I would focus on what I studied hardest and know best: banks, brokers, retailers, techs, oils, health care. But there are so many areas where there are just a handful of companies taking share, doing well, building things up, making money over time, that just may not be on your radar screen. Because of that, you end up sticking with Oracle (ORCL - commentary - Cramer's Take) or Cisco (CSCO - commentary - Cramer's Take), two stocks I heard a bunch of managers praise Tuesday. Come on, guys, get off your duffs, stop drinking Duff, and make some calls. Call Crown Castle (CCI - commentary - Cramer's Take). This is one of those companies that I found out about in an email. I get a huge amount of email from people asking me about stocks. I don't respond to individuals about individual stocks. But that doesn't keep people from telling me the ones they like. About six months ago, I got an email from a manager who told me about the quiet bull market in cell towers. Crown Castle is king of the cell towers. It makes some of those wackier poles that look like Christmas trees, as well as the usual obtrusive stuff.
Crown Castle is the type of stock, like the Airgas (ARG - commentary - Cramer's Take) I told you about Tuesday, that makes me scream when I hear about people who "don't like the market." You mean to tell me that with 12,000 publicly traded stocks, there isn't something that works here? Crown Castle works here. Big meeting tomorrow. Pittsburgh. Will be Webcast. I think that you will hear the great multi-year story you are looking for, that you may need, to round out your portfolio. Just a darned good story.
