NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Major U.S. stock markets were gaining Monday as Yahoo! appeared poised to acquire the blog network Tumblr in a deal valued at $1.1 billion, and drugmaker Actavis said it plans to acquire specialty pharmaceuticals firm Warner Chilcott for $8.5 billion in stock and assumed debt.
Investors appeared caught between the excitement of the Yahoo! and Actavis deals and concerns that the run-up in equity price in 2013 has been artificially fueled by the Federal Reserve's asset-buying program. Speculation has centered on whether the central bank has any plans to wind-down its so-called quantitative easing.
The S&P 500 was up 0.1% to 1,669.60 while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.1% to 15,365.64. The Nasdaq was also adding 0.1% to 3,503.14. ...
