NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- U.S. stocks opened higher Tuesday as Home Depot shares surged as the home-improvement retailer increased its sales forecast, highlighting the improvements in housing while offsetting concerns the Federal Reserve may slow down its quantitative easing.
Home Depot was gaining 3.2% to $79.20 after posting first-quarter earnings that beat expectations by 6 cents at 83 cents a share, as revenue also topped forecasts. The company hiked its full-year earnings and sales outlook.
The S&P 500 was up 0.1% to 1,668.21. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.19% to 15,364.39. The Nasdaq was higher by 0.06% to 3,498.59. ...
