A Bullish Appointment
Shares of VitalStream (VSTH:Nasdaq) are rallying 4% this morning to $8.07 after the company announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer. We aren't taking any action in this note.The appointment of Eric Mersch to the CFO role should be viewed as a positive for investors. Mersch formerly held the position of vice president, finance for Harrah's Las Vegas Sands and Flamingo properties. We are pleased to see VitalStream attract talent from larger firms because this should spur the company's growth. According to the press release, current CFO Mark Belzowski will remain with the company in a senior role, though the company did not discuss in detail what his new duties will entail.
In other news on VitalStream, ThinkEquity, a Wall Street research firm that also does investment banking and private financing deals, issued a bullish note on the company Monday. The note confirmed our viewpoint that VitalStream's video-advertising platform will play a critical role as a means of content delivery over the Web as the use of rich media such as video and audio grows. We also believe VitalStream's acquisition of privately held Eonstreams, which closed May 22, complements the company's already successful content-delivery offerings and helps differentiate it from competitors such as Akamai (AKAM:Nasdaq) and Limelight.
We maintain our One rating on VitalStream and view the current quote as an attractive entry point. Again, we want to remind you that the stock is very thinly traded, so be cautious when making transactions.
