U.S. Takes Over Fannie, Freddie

The Treasury Department and the Federal Housing Finance Agency said on Sept. 7, 2008 that they would ''temporarily'' take control of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. There is still no clarity on how the firms will be restructured, or how much of a role the government will play in their operations.
