Who's in Charge Here?

 

Determining "head of household" status relies solely on support, not age.

That means in a single-parent home, a child could qualify (and therefore file) as head of household if he or she earns more than the parent and contributes more than half the cost of maintaining the family. It doesn't matter if the parent exercises family control -- it's the financing that counts.
