Stocks Churn on Layoffs, Weak Retail Sales

Wall Street continued to trade with volatility as the final hour of trading approached. Investors were dealt a fresh round of retail data as well as news of more corporate layoffs, as the Big Three automakers returned before Congress to ask for aid.
