Samsung Is New Cell Phone King
Surpasses Nokia As Number One Manufacturer

According to the latest numbers from Strategy Analytics, Samsung has overtaken perennial leader Nokia for the first time ever when it comes to cell phone shipments as well as market share
In the first quarter of 2012, Samsung shipped 93.5 million units worldwide compared to Nokia's 82.7 million. One year ago, the order was reversed. Nokia shipped more than 105 million units while Samsung shipped nearly 69 million devices.
In terms of market share, Samsung with 25.4% (up from 19.3% a year ago) leads Nokia who now comes in at 22.5% (down from than 30.4% in the first quarter of 2011.
As for Apple, their numbers nearly doubled in the past year - from 18.6 million to 35.1 million in shipped devices. That's a jump from 5.2% to 9.5% of all cell phone shipments worldwide.
But, “others” numbers are down slightly but still lead in both categories. All the other global cell phone manufacturers combine now accounted for 156.7 million devices (42.6%) in Q1/2012 compared to 160.4 million (45%) a year ago.
