Research In Motion Licenses Software From Microsoft
OS-Level Code Can Handle Modern, Portable Media
By Gary Krakow
Microsoft has announced that they've licensed a bit of software to Research in Motion.
Remember them?
RIM signed a patent licensing agreement which gives the Canadian-based company “broad access to the latest Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) for certain Blackberry devices”.
exFAT is Redmond's updated file system which deals with large “audiovisual media” files and “enables seamless seamless data portability and an easy interchange between desktop PCs and other electronic devices”.
The file system is specially tuned to handle media for today's new sophisticated smartphones and tablets.
