Nokia 808 "Pure View" Looks Absolutely Amazing In New Video
41-Megapixel Camera/Phone Still Not Slated For U.S. Release
By Gary Krakow
Fans in the United States need to know where to look to find information about Nokia's next hot superphone. Here's a hint: It has nothing to do with Microsoft or Windows.
The phone, which is NOT scheduled to be released here, is called the 808 Pure View. It features what the company is calling a 41-megapixel camera and runs on a recently updated (and much improved) version of their trusty Symbian operating system – still being used by millions worldwide.
When Nokia agreed to the monster deal with Microsoft to put all their efforts into creating new Windows Phone OS devices they announced that Symbian was basically dead.
But, then Nokia released their “Belle” update and a short while later, announced this new super-camera-phone.
Nokia says the 808 is not coming to the United States. After seeing the new promotional video posted on Nokia's European Website today I wonder whether that will always remain the case. The phone looks amazing.
There have been rumors that Nokia might include the 41-megapixel camera system in an upcoming Windows Phone design. But, considering just announced Windows Phone sales numbers, Nokia may have made a very clever business decision by not killing Symbian completely.
Not yet, anyway. It may come in handy.
