Apple isn't the only patent holder who spending lots of time suing other companies in court.
News today shows that Microsoft has been looking toward litigation to resolve certain alleged oversights.
Microsoft has just received a favorable decision in a German court against Google-owned Motorola Mobility. Microsoft has now won the right to have Motorola Android phones banned in Germany over a long-standing (2001) European patent for FAT
FAT stands for File Allocation Table (concerning how files are named).
Microsoft convinced the court that Moto was using said technology without an agreement being in place. Or a payment schedule. All the other Android device manufacturers pay Microsoft a fee to use the technology. Motorola has refused.
To enforce the ban, Microsoft will have to post a 10-million Euro bond to enforce the ban.
This was Microsoft's third patent defense win over Motorola in as nmany months.
