IBM Gets Fit at CES
By James Rogers
Although not typically associated with consumer technology, tech giant IBM is involved with one of the quirkiest pieces of kit at this year’s CES. Body monitor specialist BodyMedia its demonstrating its FIT LINK technology in Las Vegas – an armband-based monitor for tracking users’ calorie usage and progress towards weight loss goals.
The fitness technology company, however, has now teamed up with Big Blue to add in-depth analytics to the system’s software. The new FIT COACH feature, built using IBM’s Decision Management Software, can provide information on whether users are missing or beating their calorie targets, nutritional analysis of meals eaten, as well as offering activity options to help users meet their weight loss goals.
Like many people, I gained a few pounds over the holidays, so I look forward to giving this technology a test drive.
