BlackBerry Tablet Gets Major Software Upgrade
PlayBook OS Version 2.0 Is Available For Downloading Now
By Gary Krakow
Remember Research in Motion's Blackberry PlayBook tablet?
When introduced last year it was a nice, capable device – but wouldn't allow Crackberry addicts to get their email and stuff without linking the PlayBook to their BlackBerry smartphones. How could RIM not include BlackBerry mail in a BlackBerry tablet?
As of today that's history. RIM has just released a totally new version of the PlayBook operating system. Version 2.0.0.7971.
There's a new look for the home screen with Messaging, Contacts and Calendar icons leading the way in a new apps bar at the top of the screen.
According to RIM, those three new apps “deliver a socially connected BlackBerry experience users will love”.
Other highlights include BlackBerry Bridge (allows your BlackBerry smartphone to act as a wireless keyboard and mouse for remote control of your PlayBook), DocumentsToGo and PrintToGo productivity tools and new content available in the BlackBerry App World store (including important titles such as “Angry Birds” and “Cut The Rope”.
We have downloaded the new OS to our PlayBook and promise to have a full review soon.
