According to the bloggers at 9to5Mac, the next version of iOS, Apple's operating system for for iPhones and iPads, will replace Google's mapping system with an app of their own.
Today's report says iOS 6 might start reaping the benefits of Apple's recent purchases over the last few years. By incorporating map information they can get from the OpenStreetMap foundation, iPhoto and technology from their purchase of C3 to create a three-dimensional mapping system.
Apple won't be the first with 3D maps. Nokia Maps 3D, currently available on their Lumia (Windows Phone OS) models, is pretty amazing in its own right.
9to5Mac, have been pretty accurate when it comes to making iOS predictions. We'll know just how accurate this rumor was when Apple discloses what's new at their yearly developer's conference, to be held in San Francisco, beginning one month from today.
