Wolverton won a "Best in Business" award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for his 2003 series on eBay's stock options practices. The series was also a finalist for a Gerald Loeb award and for an Online Journalism Award.;

Wolverton previously covered the retail industry for TheStreet.com. Prior to joining the company, he covered online retail and e-commerce for CNET News.com. Before that, he worked as an education reporter and online editor for the San Jose Mercury News. ;

Wolverton graduated from the University of Missouri with a master's degree in journalism and from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in government.
