Shares of TiVo(TIVO Quote) spiked after the company confirmed that it will add features to allow quick transfers of programming on its digital records to the Apple(AAPL Quote) iPod and Sony(SNE Quote) PSP.

"The increasing popularity of mobile devices for viewing video such as Apple's iPod and the PSP device demonstrate the enormous consumer demand for entertainment on the go," TiVo said. "By enhancing our TiVoToGo feature, we're making it easy for consumers to enjoy the TV shows they want to watch right from their iPod or PSP -- whenever and wherever they want."

Currently, TiVo's TiVoToGo feature lets subscribers transfer television shows from their recorder to a laptop or personal computer over a home network, where they can be moved to another device with Microsoft's(MSFT Quote) Portable Media Center format. The plans detailed Monday will add support for the iPod and PSP.

TiVo said it will begin testing the feature in the coming weeks with a select group of TiVo Series2 subscribers who own the Apple Video iPod or PSP devices. TiVo said it plans to make the feature available to its entire standalone TiVo Series2 subscriber base as early as the first quarter of next year.

TiVo shares added 48 cents, or 9%, to $5.75 early Monday.
