On Stockpickr Answers Tuesday and late Monday, Jim Cramer responded to a new batch of questions posed by members of the Stockpickr community. Anybody can ask, respond and comment at Stockpickr Answers and the top responders get ranked in our "Top Analysts" section.
Here are a few of the questions Jim responded to:- Yahoo!(YHOO Quote - Cramer on YHOO - Stock Picks) Chairman Terry Semel ended his six-year tenure as chief executive officer Monday and will hand over the reins to co-founder Jerry Yang in the Internet icon's latest attempt to regain investor confidence. Semel, 64, will remain chairman in a nonexecutive role. Yahoo! also appointed Susan Decker as its president. Decker, who had been recently promoted to oversee the company's advertising operations, had widely been seen as Semel's heir apparent. Thoughts?
- I was lucky enough to catch the move in Alcan(AL Quote - Cramer on AL - Stock Picks) from the mid $50s to the mid $80s on the Alcoa(AA Quote - Cramer on AA - Stock Picks) bid. I also took a smaller position in Alcoa after the bid, when it was also rumored to be a target. Alcan is now a few bucks off its peak of about $88. Is it time to ring the register on Alcan and add to the Alcoa position, on the premise that the hunter is now more likely the hunted (perhaps by Alcan itself)?
- Cleveland Cliffs(CLF Quote - Cramer on CLF - Stock Picks) is almost down to where it was in early May. I don't think it will take much to get this one back to its highs. It can't be down because of the PinnOak Resources LLC acquisition, can it? Probably just got ahead of itself, right? What do you think?
- You must admit NYSE Euronext(NYX Quote - Cramer on NYX - Stock Picks) and Level 3 Communications(LVLT Quote - Cramer on LVLT - Stock Picks) are dogs! They are your stocks of the year and most stocks are up 10% to 20% on the year. What is it going to take for NYSE Euronext to turn around? What do you think its earnings will be on Aug. 2? Most are calling for 63 cents a share.
- At Kraft(KFT Quote - Cramer on KFT - Stock Picks), do you think Irene Rosenfeld has been on the job long enough to have put in place any kind of hedging program to offset the rise in commodity costs of milk, grain, meat (especially milk)? Or can she keep pace with price increases?
- I'm in a house of pleasure on Potash(POT Quote - Cramer on POT - Stock Picks). Should I take some off the table to lock in gains? Are there any rules you use to help determine when to take profits?
- On the Friday show, you talked about Nastech Pharmaceutical(NSTK Quote - Cramer on NSTK - Stock Picks). (I was the caller, actually.) I like the company's story and have been long the stock a couple different times. That said, in most other cases when a CEO comes on and talks positive and then misses earnings, you crush him. You did not crush Nastech. I can understand the rationale that if this is a spec, it's acceptable risk. However, with all due respect, it seems inconsistent.
- Look at Walgreen's(WAG Quote - Cramer on WAG - Stock Picks) track record. It is impeccable. If they think purchasing a pharmacy benefit management is not as smart a use of capital as expanding their store footprint, I'm with them. They will beat CVS Caremark(CVS Quote - Cramer on CVS - Stock Picks) and Rite Aid(RAD Quote - Cramer on RAD - Stock Picks), as they always have. I'm calling my shot: This one is going much higher. How come it doesn't get your benefit of the doubt? And a company like Radioshack (RSH Quote - Cramer on RSH - Stock Picks) does?
- I know you recommend getting out of the solar industry stocks, due to the massive amount of offerings and new companies emerging of late. Does the new proposed energy tax package effect your call at all? Also, take notice that fuel cells and solar are getting the lion's share, greater than 30%. You know you want to greenlight FuelCell Energy(FCEL Quote - Cramer on FCEL - Stock Picks).
- Brookfield Asset Management(BAM Quote - Cramer on BAM - Stock Picks) is taking a little dip along with its stock split. Isn't it time to back up the truck and reload on this perennial performer? Who doesn't want to own hydroelectric plants, wind farms and hundreds of millions of acres of other assets!
