"Bernanke is a loved figure on Wall Street," said Jim Cramer on Wednesday's "Stop Trading!" segment on CNBC.

Responding to implications that the Federal Reserve chairman was involved in a cover-up regarding Bank of America's(BAC Quote) acquisition of Merrill Lynch, Cramer called an attack on Bernanke's integrity "ridiculous" and "outrageous."

"This is a man who'd rather die than do something unethical," said Cramer. "This is just some shameful accusation by a man who'd clearly walk a mile for a camera."

"Bernanke took control of the situation when it looked like we were going to lose this country," said Cramer. "He did a remarkable job." Cramer said that he's been critical of Bernanke "for taking too long to cut rates," but he'd never criticize the Federal Reserve chairman's integrity.

At the time of publication, Cramer was long Bank of America.
