Mazda Motor said it would scrap all the U.S.- and Canada-bound vehicles from a car-carrying ship that nearly sank this past summer.
The automaker, owned 33% by Ford (F Quote), said Friday that 4,703 Mazdas will be scrapped. The vessel, the Cougar Ace, nearly capsized off the Aleutian Islands in late July. The Cougar Ace sat listing at more than 60-degrees for nearly a month after an incident at sea, before it could be towed to the Port of Portland, Ore., for repairs and to have its cargo off-loaded. Mazda initially said it would sell undamaged cars from the ship, but the company announced Friday that "the potential for future problems led the company to reconsider." "We always put the customer first," Mazda said.- Loading Comments...
