DryShips, JA Solar: Early Volume Plays

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Several stocks trading under $10 were poised to move on above-average volume during Friday's session.

DryShips(DRYS Quote) fell by 30 cents, or 4.7%%, to $6.30 in the premarket session. The company completed a $400 million senior note convertible offering right before the Thanksgiving holiday, a capital markets action that occurred alongside the provision of 26 million common shares to Deutsche Bank for future sale.

DryShips has been a highly active stock in the recently heavily played dry bulk shipping sector. The 50-day average daily volume for is 26 million, according to the Nasdaq.

For the second-consecutive market day, Brocade Communications (BRCD Quote) was among the most active pre-market trades, dropping by 16 cents, or 2.2%, to $7.18 in the premarket session on Friday. The company came back from the holiday break the same way it headed into the holiday -- with its share price hurting as a result of denying reports that it was searching for a buyer.

Brocade was also downgrade by Canaccord Adams to a cut rating. The 50-day average daily volume for Brocade matches DryShips' average at 27 million, according to the Nasdaq.

JA Solar (JASO Quote) dropped 23 cents, or 5.9%, to $3.70 in the premarket session after the company's president and chief operating officer -- under whose direction the firm's revenues had grown from $90 million to $800 million in two years -- bolted the firm for rival DayStar Technologies(DSTI Quote). The 50-day average daily volume for is 4.8 million, according to the Nasdaq.
