RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Senate must decide whether to change the state's tax law for what is almost certainly on behalf of one company.

The Senate scheduled a decision for Thursday on whether to approve a tax break for companies willing to invest $1 billion in a rural area, while also meeting wage standards, providing health insurance and other conditions. The Commerce Department sees just one company meeting those conditions now.

Legislation that would change how corporate income taxes are calculated passed the state House on Wednesday. Democratic Rep. Pryor Gibson of Anson County said the company is very close to a decision on where to put its East Coast data center.

The Associated Press reported last week that the company is Apple Inc.
